The Animal Models for Hepatitis B and C (R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supports research focused on the development of convenient small animal models of infection and replication of HBV and/or HCV, ideally leading to the dichotomous outcomes of clearance and persistence. Alternatively, closely related surrogate virus-host systems or robust xenotransplantation models dually engrafted with human liver cells and human immune systems can be developed. Applications are open to researchers in the USA and worldwide. The grant provides funding for up to 5 years.
