The BRAIN Initiative: Next-Generation Devices for Recording and Modulation in the Human Central Nervous System (UG3/UH3 Clinical Trial Optional) funding program from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) support translational activities and small clinical studies for recording and/or stimulating devices to treat central nervous system disorders and better understand the human brain. Activities supported in this program include regulatory activities to obtain an Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) for a Significant Risk (SR) study, as well as a subsequent small clinical study.

Applicants must not exceed $500,000 in direct costs per year for the UG3 phase and should rarely exceed $1,500,000 direct costs per year for the UH3 phase. The proposed project period for the UG3 phase must not exceed 1 year. The proposed project period for the UH3 phase must not exceed 4 years.
