The European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD) and Lilly EXPLORING AND APPLYING NEW STRATEGIES IN DIABETES (EXPAND) Programme is funded by the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD) and the pharmaceutical company Lilly. The program accepts applications in all areas of clinical diabetes with potential strategies that could be implemented in low-and middle-income countries (LMIC) in collaboration with a European centre to favour the improvement of quality of care for all people living with diabetes. Priority will be placed on projects that address:

  • Prevention of diabetes mellitus
  • Diagnosis/management of all forms of diabetes
  • Diagnosis/management/prevention of diabetes-related microvascular complications
  • Diagnosis/management/prevention of diabetes-related macrovascular complications

Applications are invited from diabetes researchers at non-profit research institutions in Europe and Associated Countries in collaboration with researchers in DAC (Development Assistance Committee) countries. The principal investigator of the accepted application may receive a free EASD membership for the duration of the project under a solidarity fund. Applicants may apply for up to 150,000 EUR for 1 year or longer.
