The Grant for Environmental Research Projects from The Sumitomo Foundation supports environmental research projects in Japan that add critical issues facing humanity, including global warming, ozone layer destruction, acid rain, species decline, food security, overpopulation, desertification, and pollution. It also tackles challenges such as biodiversity conservation, the use of renewable resources and energy to achieve carbon neutrality, and the realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For 2024, the Special Subject Research focuses on: Interdisciplinary research and/or international collaborative research to control the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere as an urgent task for humanity. The Grant Program also encourages not only natural scientific approaches but also human and social scientific approaches that examine changes in human behavior and socio-economic systems, as well as combined approaches. • Up to 10 million JPY for 2 – 3 years for special subject research projects.
