Seed Grant for New African Principal Investigators (STEM and medicine)

The Seed Grant for New African Principal Investigators (SG-NAPI) from The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports early-career scientists who are getting established in their country or are about to return home to an academic position. Applicants must be under 40 years of age, are nationals of and the work must be conducted in African countries that are considered to be lagging in science and technology. The PI must have obtained their Ph.D. within the last 5 years in a country other than their home country.

Applicable subject areas include:

  • Earth Sciences
  • Engineering
  • Information and Computer Technology
  • Mathematics
  • Medical Sciences
  • Physics

Applicants may apply for up to 62,000 USD for projects over 24 months. Applications close on April 20, 2023.
