The 2024 Translational Bridge Award offered by the Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) backs lupus research projects with clearly defined objectives situated along the translational, clinical, or drug/diagnostic development pathway, exhibiting potential for near-term commercialization. Two primary project types will be considered:

  1. Projects focused on establishing a robust data validation package, which may include preclinical or pilot clinical studies, aimed at advancing the discovery of a potential entity or product by achieving translational milestones such as strengthening intellectual property, attracting additional venture capital for start-up companies, or attaining clinical proof-of-concept.
  2. Ancillary projects associated with ongoing or recently completed clinical trials, intended for further analysis on potential entities or products, or for studying other defined components such as associated biomarkers.

Applicants must have received previous funding from the LRA or been affiliated with a previously funded LRA award, completing the award term between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2024, inclusive of any no-cost extensions. Eligible applicants must hold a doctoral degree (MD, PhD, DO, or equivalent), occupy a faculty or equivalent position, and lead an independent research team at an academic, nonprofit, or government research institution. US federal government research laboratories are ineligible.

The Award offers up to 450,000 USD (including 10% indirect costs) for a duration of up to 2 years.

Letters of intent are due on April 29, 2024, with invited full applications due in July 2024.
