The AAMAC Research Grant from Aplastic Anemia & Myelodysplasia Association of Canada (AAMAC) offers funding to projects related to aplastic anemia (AA), myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), and/or paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH).

Relevant research topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Research aimed at enhancing Quality of Life, such as exploring treatment options and guidelines, chelation therapy, and changes in clinical practices.
  • Investigations into biomarkers like cytogenetic abnormalities to deepen understanding.
  • Studies focused on tailoring treatments to individual patients.
  • Efforts to improve outcomes in bone marrow failure through better transplant practices.
  • Establishment of new registries if they contribute to enhanced knowledge, among other areas.
  • Research leading to advancements in the treatment of AA, MDS, or PNH.


Applicants must be affiliated with reputable healthcare institutions in Canada, including but not limited to publicly or privately funded hospitals, academic institutions, or registered clinical research organizations. They may also be involved in publicly funded research projects.

This grant offers funding of up to 50,000 CAD per year for a period of 3 years (10% indirect costs).

All applicants are required to submit a letter of intent containing the following components:

  • Introduction & Research Overview
  • Statement of Need (Evidence Gap)
  • Methodology and/or Study Design Description
  • Research Site, Materials, and Personnel Requirements
  • Budget Breakdown
  • Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest

Format: The LOI should not exceed three pages, utilize 11-point font, and maintain 1.5 line spacing.
