One John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award from the Gairdner Foundation is given each year for scientifically-based research that has improved the health and well-being of those facing health inequities worldwide. Gairdner invites international nominations from any field of research impacting global health and health inequity. While a single significant scientific discovery can be the basis of a nomination, the Award recognizes a wide range of outstanding investigators from basic scientists to those who apply rational scientific approaches to successful implementation, evaluation and policy interventions. The award is intended for research-focused candidates, not those primarily involved in administrative or advocacy roles. This award can be shared by multiple recipients who have contributed to a single body of work at the discretion of the Foundation. Online information sessions are available May – September for those interested in the award and nomination. Registration is available here. The award includes 100,000 CAD in prize money.

Self-nominations and posthumous nominations are not accepted. Nominations close on October 1, 2024.
