Career development award (UK medical research)

The Career development award is funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) to support early-career medical researchers making the transition to independent researchers at research institutions in the UK. Applicants should be working in the following disciplines

  • infections and immunity
  • molecular and cellular medicine
  • population and systems medicine
  • neurosciences and mental health
  • translation
  • global health
  • methodology
  • public health

Applications are also open to qualified researchers from abroad, and successful applicants are eligible for a Global Talent visa under the ‘exceptional promise’ category for future research leaders. Applicants may apply for funding for projects up to 5 years. MRC funds 80% of the full economic cost. Applications open on February 24, 2023 and close on April 19, 2023.
