International Exchange (UK researchers – natural sciences)

The International Exchange Fund from The Royal Society promotes new scientific exchanges of UK-based researchers with colleagues worldwide. The main applicant must have a current appointment at a UK research institution. Both the UK applicant and the overseas applicant must hold doctoral degrees. Applicants may apply for a total of 12,000 GBP to support bilateral visits over a period of 2 years. Applications must be within the remit of The Royal Society, including biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics.

The Royal Society also partners with the following bodies to co-fund International Exchanges awards through a Cost Share scheme:

  • Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Italy (CNR)
  • Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)
  • National Science and Technology Council, Taiwan (NSTC)
  • National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)

The next round of applications closes on June 7, 2023.
