The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Research Fellowship is funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to promote further research training of German researchers in Japan. Applicants must be German citizens or are permanent residents of Germany and must not be citizens or permanent residents of Japan. Applicants must have received their doctoral degree within the past 6 years. The Fellowship provides a stipend of 362,000 JPN/month for 1-24 months. Fellows conducting a stay of three months or more will receive a one-off settling-in allowance of 200,000 yen. Travel and insurance allowances may also be paid.

The selection committee meets three times per year, in February, June and October.
