The Research Seed Grants, supported by the Barts Charity, provide seed funding for health-related research endeavors with the potential to enhance the well-being of individuals in East London. This grant aims to support applications to other funding organizations or to initiate new academic-clinical collaborations.

Eligibility:

Lead Applicant:

  • Researchers at the early stages of their independent career or those exploring ideas beyond their discipline or expertise are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants must hold a position at one of the following organizations:
    • Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London.
    • Barts Health NHS Trust hospitals.
    • School of Health & Psychological Sciences at City, University of London.
  • Projects must be based at one of the listed organizations.
  • For the duration of the award, applicants must:
    • Hold an independent academic, clinical, or research position and receive their salary from one of the listed organizations.
    • Have protected time for research if holding a clinical post.
    • Have a fellowship or personal award providing their salary at the postdoctoral level or higher.
  • Applicants currently holding a Research Seed Grant or funded through a Targeted Transformational Funding recruitment package are ineligible.

Co-applicants:

  • Up to three co-applicants are allowed.
  • Co-applicants may be external to the applicant’s organization, but their specific expertise must be justified.

Funding of up to 75,000 GBP for up to 12 months (or 18 months for projects involving patient/participant recruitment) is supported.

This is a bi-annual fund and the next applications close on July 4, 2024.
