The Rhodes Scholarships for Australia
The Rhodes Scholarship is a fully funded, full time, postgraduate award which enables talented young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. The Rhodes Scholarships for Australia offers nine scholarships each year, each state offers one Scholarship that is awarded by a selection committee of seven members (including three Rhodes Scholars) based in the state. In addition, there are three Australia-at-Large Scholarships awarded by a selection committee based in Canberra. Applicants must
- be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Applications from refugees/asylum seekers currently residing in Australia will also be considered in this constituency.
- must have completed at least two years of schooling at an Australian secondary school.
- must meet either of the below criteria:
i. be aged 18-24 on 1 October 2023 (i.e. you must have been born after 1 October 1998 and before 2 October 2005); OR (for older candidates who completed their first undergraduate degree later than usual)
ii. be under the age of 27 on 1st October 2023 (i.e. have been born after 1 October 1996) AND you must also have completed your first undergraduate degree on or after 1 July 2022*.
The Rhodes Scholarship covers Oxford University course fees, as well as providing an annual stipend. For the 2022/23 academic year, the stipend is £18,180 per annum (£1,515 per month) from which Scholars pay all living expenses, including accommodation. Funding duration is dependent on the length of the course, e.g. PhD funding is available for 3 years.
