The Rhodes Scholarship is a fully funded, full time, postgraduate award which enables talented young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. The Rhodes Scholarships for Canada offers eleven scholarships each year. The Scholarships in Canada are administered by six regional selection committees as detailed below:

  • Three Scholarships to: The Prairie Region (Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta)
  • Two Scholarships each to: Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritime Region (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island)
  • One Scholarship each to: British Columbia & Newfoundland

Applicants must:

  • be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Applications from refugees/asylum seekers currently residing in Canada will also be considered in this constituency.
  • must be living in Canada
  • must meet either of the below criteria:
    i. You must be aged 18-23 on 1st October 2024 (i.e. you must have been born after 1 October 2000 and before 2 October 2006). OR (for older candidates who completed their first undergraduate degree later than usual)
    ii. You must be under the age of 27 on 1st October 2024 (i.e. have been born after 1 October 1997) AND you must also have completed your first undergraduate degree on or after 1 October 2023*.

The Rhodes Scholarship covers Oxford University course fees, as well as providing an annual stipend. For the 2023/24 academic year, the stipend is 19,092 GBP per annum from which Scholars pay all living expenses, including accommodation. Funding duration is dependent on the length of the course, e.g. PhD funding is available for 3 years.
