The Women In Science and Engineering (WISE)-Societal Challenges with Opportunities (SCOPE) Fellowship Program funded by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India aims to empower women scientists and technologists who hold a Ph.D. by providing them an opportunity to leverage their knowledge and expertise for societal benefit. Projects funded under this program focus on addressing grassroots challenges through science and technology interventions in areas such as energy, water, waste management, engineering, environment, agriculture, health, and nutrition.

The project proposal should incorporate the creation of practical technology or techniques with the potential for transitioning from laboratory settings to real-world applications, adaptation, and scalability, ultimately benefiting society. The thematic areas for project focus include:

  1. Energy, Water, and Waste Management (EWWM)
  2. Engineering and Technological Development (ETD)
  3. Environment, Climate, and Sustainable Development (ECSD)
  4. Agriculture and Allied Sciences (AAS)
  5. Health, Food, and Nutrition (HFN)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Employment: Candidates should not be in regular employment. Temporary employment in research or academics is allowed, provided the candidate leaves the earlier assignment if selected for the WISE-SCOPE program.
  • Age: Applicants must be between 27 to 60 years old at the time of submission.
  • Educational Qualification: Women scientists with a Ph.D. in Basic or Applied Sciences, or equivalent degrees like MD/MS/MDS are eligible.

Financial Support:

  • Basic Fellowship: Rs. 55,000/- per month along with HRA (as per norms).
  • Research Grant: Rs. 2.0 Lakh per year.
  • Field Demonstration: Rs. 1.0 Lakh (for project tenure).
  • Cost of Small Equipment: Up to Rs. 2.0 Lakh.
  • Institutional Overhead Charges: As per DST norms.

Project Tenure: Up to 3 years.
