The ALA/ATS/CHEST Foundation Respiratory Health Equity Research Award from the American Thoracic Society (ATS) is funded together with the American Lung Association and the CHEST Foundation to support research that addresses health equity in lung diseases. The focus of this research grant is clinical research that addresses topics on improving clinical outcomes in preventing and/or treating lung disease that disproportionately affects under-represented minority (URM) patient groups. URM patient groups include patients from lower-middle- and low-income countries as defined by the World Bank, or the following North American populations: African Americans, Mexican-Americans, Native Americans (American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians), Pacific Islanders, and mainland Puerto Ricans.
Applicants must be US citizens or hold the legal right to work in the USA for the duration of the grant. Applicants must be members of ATS and CHEST. Applicants must be early-career researchers (within 12 years of completing their terminal degree) or trainees (fellows). The Award provides 100,000 USD/year for 2 years.
