The Experimental medicine research funding program from the Medical Research Council (MRC) supports UK-based medical researchers working on understanding human pathophysiology. The research proposed must have a clear path to clinical impact. Successful projects will produce new mechanistic insights, including those that may:

  • identify opportunities to modify disease pathways
  • enable the future development of novel therapeutic or diagnostic approaches

Mechanisms of intervention may include but are not limited to: pharmacological, immunological, physiological, psychological and through understanding of infectious diseases. The MRC will fund 80% of the full economic cost. There are no limitations to timeline and budget.

Stage one proposals are due on April 17, 2024. Invited stage two proposals are due on September 4, 2024.
