The Research Grants from the Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation (Diabetes Action) support innovative endeavors aimed at preventing, treating, and curing both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, along with their associated complications.

Types of research supported and funded include:

  • Promising and innovative approaches to preventing and treating both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, as well as their related complications.
  • Research focused on diabetes with an emphasis on nutritional therapies.
  • Development and enhancement of new or existing rehabilitative or technological devices for individuals living with diabetes.
  • Educational programs targeting prevention, awareness, and/or treatment of diabetes.


  • Applicants must be qualified researchers, including scientists (Ph.D.), physicians (M.D.), or other professionals in the medical research field.
  • Grants are exclusively awarded to non-profit organizations (e.g., universities) located within the United States.
