The Simons Postdoctoral Fellowships in Marine Microbial Ecology from the  Simons Foundation supports postdoctoral researchers to pursue a career in basic research on fundamental problems in marine microbial ecology, with an emphasis on understanding the role of microorganisms in shaping ocean processes 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must have obtained their Ph.D. or equivalent degree within three years of the fellowship start date.
  • Preference is given to applicants with no more than one year of postdoctoral experience.
  • U.S. citizens can choose a postdoctoral research sponsor in the U.S or Canada, while foreign applicants may select a sponsor in the U.S.
  • Awards can only be issued to non-profit research universities or institutions in the U.S or Canada.

Budget and Duration of Funding:

  • The fellowship is for three years, contingent upon satisfactory annual progress reports.
  • It provides an annual stipend of 70,000 USD and an annual allowance of up to 25,000 USD.
  • The allowance can cover health insurance, research supplies, small equipment, attendance at scientific meetings, and research-related travel.
