The Bioimaging Technology Development Awards from the Wellcome Trust support teams of technology developers and researchers to create novel bioimaging tools that can advance the current standards in bioimaging or lower barriers in low-resource settings. For the first phase of the application, the team must include between 3 to 5 applicants.
Potential areas of interest for the projects include, but are not limited to:
- Cell atlasing
- Dynamic biology
- Overcoming barriers to bioimaging in low-resource settings
There are no citizenship restrictions, but the lead applicant must be based at eligible research institutions in the UK, Ireland, or low- or middle-income countries (except for China and India).
This award has two phases:
- Foundation phase: The successful applications to this funding call will receive funding for 1.5 years initially.
- Scale-up phase: After 12 months of the foundation phase, the funded programs should apply for the scale-up phase. The successful programs of this second phase will be able to request support for up to 6.5 additional years.
The award provides up to 500,000 GBP for the Foundation Phase. The next applications for the 'Foundation Phase' close on April 30, 2024.
