The Awards for Faculty Institutional Support – HBCUs and TCUs, offered by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), is a limited competition that aim to strengthen the capacity of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU) to foster humanities research on their campuses. This support is extended to institutions with one or more faculty or staff members who have received one of the following NEH awards for individuals in the federal fiscal year 2024:

  • Awards for Faculty at Historically Black Colleges and Universities
  • Awards for Faculty at Tribal Colleges and Universities

This initiative provides funding to offset costs associated with temporary leave or reduced course loads for faculty fellows. Funds may be used to hire replacement instructors for humanities courses typically taught by the faculty fellows. Additionally, if the fellow holds administrative responsibilities resulting in a course release (e.g., undergraduate advising or chairing a humanities department), funds can be allocated to cover those costs.

NEH will provide funding at a fixed rate of 2,500 USD per month (full-time equivalent), up to 30,000 USD for a 12-month period.

There are two proposal deadlines annually, with the next applications closing on May 1, 2024.

Full application due:
May 1, 2024
