Climate-smart livestock systems (Sub-Saharan Africa)
The funding opportunity climate-smart livestock systems from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) together with The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office support new climate-smart livestock technologies and business models to improve animal productivity, promote climate adaptation and lower emission intensity for smallholder livestock farmers in climatic hotspots in Africa. Four thematic areas have been identified as being research priorities for CSLS program:
- water, pastures and feed management
- Indigenous knowledge systems, climate data and management
- integration of renewable energy — circular economies
- animal health
Applications are open to consortia led by an African public or private institution (south of the Sahara). The Grant provides up to 1.5 million CAD over 36 months.
