The MHA Uniformed Scholarships offered by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) aim to recognize and support individuals with strong leadership qualities and a keen interest in safeguarding the safety and security of Singapore. These scholarships provide opportunities for academic and career development in various areas related to policing and security.

The scholarship tiers include:

  • Singapore Merit Scholarship (SMS)
  • Singapore Government Scholarship (SGS)
  • Local Merit Scholarship (LMS)
  • Home Team Local Study Award (HTLSA)


  • Must be a Singapore Citizen or SPR intending to take up Singapore Citizenship
  • Demonstrated strong leadership qualities and potential
  • Possess a strong interest in safeguarding the safety and security of Singapore
  • Good academic and Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) records
  • Hold a GCE A-Levels, International Baccalaureate, Polytechnic, NUS High School, or other high school diploma/certificate
  • Current Undergraduate students (not in final year of studies) may also apply
  • Perform well in National Service (for male applicants)
  • Aspiring SMS candidates should qualify and excel in Officer Cadet School

For female candidates, it is advised to submit their applications earlier to allow sufficient time for preparation for enlistment into Basic Military Training (BMT) in the Singapore Armed Forces.

The scholarships cover:

  • Tuition and other approved fees
  • Monthly Overseas Maintenance Allowance
  • Monthly Salary for the duration
  • Pre-studies Allowance
  • Return Economy Class Airfare
  • NS Disruption
  • Sponsorship for Masters and Exchange Programmes (if requirements are met)

Applicants can study in most countries and disciplines (except medicine, dentistry, and architecture). Applicants intending to pursue a degree in Law will not be called to the Bar while serving in the SPF. Scholarship holders will be bonded for six years (for studies in English-speaking countries) or five years (for studies in non-English-speaking countries) or four years (for local studies) starting from the day they assume duty after completing their course of study.

The application window opens on May 1 and closes on June 30, 2024.
