The Assistance for Graduate Students Attending the January 2027 Convention from the Modern Language Association provides partial travel reimbursement to MLA members.
Applications are open to graduate students who are current MLA members and will travel to the annual MLA convention to attend preconvention workshops, sessions in their areas of scholarly interest, or meetings with career counselors. Graduate students are eligible to receive MLA convention grants only once during their graduate school tenure.
Grant funds may be used for technology purchases, continuing education, research expenses, in-person or virtual conference participation, childcare expenses incurred while pursuing professional development, or other career-development costs, though funds cannot be used to support travel to the MLA Annual Convention. Applicants may receive the grant only once every three years.
Each grant provides 400 USD for partial travel reimbursement. Members are expected to request matching funds from their departments or institutions.
Limited funding is available to support attendance for waived nonmember participants who need financial assistance. Graduate students who are waived nonmembers and have registered for the January 2027 convention may apply for registration reimbursement.
Applications close on November 1, 2026.
