Lloyd J. Old STAR Program (mid-career cancer immunology worldwide)

The Lloyd J. Old STAR Program (Scientists Taking Risks) from the Cancer Research Institute provides long-term funding for mid-career cancer researchers worldwide, enabling them to take on high-risk, high-reward innovative research in cancer immunotherapy. The applicant must have an M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D. (or equivalent). Applicants must belong to one of the following two categories as of July 1, 2024:

  • tenure track Assistant Professor with a minimum of 3 years in this position or
  • tenure track Associate Professor with a maximum of 3 years in this position.

The Program provides 1.25 million USD (no indirect costs) in research funding over 5 years. Applicants are expected to commit a minimum of 80% of their time to conducting research.

This is an annual award and the next applications close on January 15, 2024.
