The Team Science Award – acral melanoma from the Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA) supports collaborative research process and promote transformational acral melanoma research advances with the potential for rapid clinical translation. Acral melanoma accounts for approximately 2-3% of all melanomas and affects people of all races and ethnicities but does disproportionately impact people of color. Priority will be given to proposals that focus on the following areas:

  • Understanding how to effectively target NF1 loss, CRKL and GAB2 amplification, and/or TERT alterations in acral melanoma;
  • Characterizing the anti-tumor immune response to acral melanoma, including identification of prognostic indicators of response/non-response, and/or development of resistance to checkpoint immunotherapy;
  • Identifying and developing novel immune, targeted and combination approaches for preclinical testing in acral melanoma models.

Team must be multidisciplinary, and consist of two or more established Principal Investigators, Each team must include at least one Young Investigator and a designated Mentor for the Young Investigator, Teams may be from the same institution, or different institutions, and may be international. MRA encourages applications from a diverse pool of investigators with respect to race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, national origin, and disability. The Award provides 300,000 USD/year for up to 3 years. Indirect costs are not allowed. Applicants may apply for fringe benefits.

Letters of intent are due on September 20, 2023 and invited full application are due January 4, 2024.
